HOUSTON … May 22, 2017 … Gorilla Safety, provider of an innovative, proprietary and patented software solution that fully automates all aspects of fleet and safety management, announced today that its mobile app now includes AOBRD integration, which will aid fleets as they transition to meet the impending Electronic Logging Device (ELD) compliance.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), fleets are required to operate with an ELD beginning December 18, 2017. However, if fleets are using an AOBRD as of that time, then they will have two years to transition from it to the ELD. A grandfathered AOBRD, the predecessor to ELD, is a device that motor carriers installed and required its drivers to use before the new ELD compliance ruling was established and takes effect.
AOBRD is important in that it will aid in the transition time allotted to move from current paper logs to ELD. Any fleet that installs AOBRD by the FCMSA deadline of December 18, 2017, can continue using it for the next two years, until the final ELD deadline of December 16, 2019. However, if the fleet purchases or places new vehicles into service during this two-year prior, those will require adherence to the new ELD mandate. Essentially, AOBRD reduces the restrictions and allows fleets to operate more freely as they transition to the new ELD requirements.
